The Rio 2016 Organising Committee has released the daily competition schedule for the Olympic Games (click here to see it). Published as part of the ‘500 days until the Games’ celebrations, the schedule shows which sports will take place on which days, allowing spectators to start planning their Games-time programme.
The Games will officially begin on 5 August 2016, when the legendary Maracanã Stadium hosts the opening ceremony, although the football tournament will start two days before. The football competition will be played in five co-host cities, as well as Rio, and the match schedule will be released soon. On 6 August, the day after the opening ceremony, the Games will get into full swing as 20 disciplines begin.
Following Olympic tradition, the swimming competitions will take place during the first week (6-13 August), with the athletics events starting on 12 August and continuing until 21 August, the day of the closing ceremony.
The full competition schedule, showing the specific session times, will be published on 31 March, when ticket sales start for Brazilian residents and the list of approved ticket resellers (ATRs) for overseas territories is released.
