Madrid, 22 Mar The Spanish driver Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda RC 213 V) suffers another episode of diplopia as a result of the sharp fall he had last Sunday during the Indonesian Grand Prix warm-up, which prevented him from participating in it, as confirmed by his team. After the first medical examinations carried out in Indonesia that ruled out serious injuries, Márquez began to experience discomfort in his vision during the trip back to Spain, so he went to the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, where ophthalmologist Bernat Sánchez Dalmau confirmed a relapse of diplopia that the pilot suffered last November and earlier in 2011. Repsol added in a statement that Marquez visited his medical team led by Dr. Samuel Antuña this morning at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, in which he has undergone a general review to evaluate all the bruises caused by the fall and a brain MRI that have reconfirmed that he does not suffer any another injury. Dr. Sánchez Dalmau explained that “the neuro-ophthalmological evaluation carried out last Monday after the head injury that occurred at the Indonesian Grand Prix, shows a new episode of diplopia (double vision) caused by a recurrence of paralysis of the fourth right nerve, with less involvement than that which occurred in the injury of November 2021"- “After this examination, it was initially decided to follow conservative treatment with regular medical tests. Next week, Marc Márquez will undergo a new review to assess the evolution of the injury and to be able to predict the estimated recovery period to return to the competition,” added the doctor. After his fall in Indonesia, the MotoGP medical team found that Márquez suffered a concussion and several multiple injuries before being transferred to the hospital in Mataram, the capital of the island of Lombok, where he underwent a more thorough medical examination and a CT scan that ruled out serious injuries. As a precaution, the MotoGP medical team, together with the Repsol Honda team, jointly decided that the rider should not take part in the race. CHIEF WMO/GMO
