Lviv (Ukraine), 21 Mar The Ukrainian authorities in the city of Sumy have controlled an ammonia leak that occurred this morning from a factory bombed by the Russians, according to the regional governor, who confirmed that there is no danger to the population anymore. The governor of Sumy, Dmitro Zhuvytskyy, reported on his Telegram channel that around 07.50 local time (05.50 GMT) the leak was controlled and that only one person had been injured. “Emergency crews are working to dissolve the ammonia cloud. There is no threat to the population,” the governor said on Telegram. The area that has been affected was within a radius of 5 kilometers and there was a time when it was thought that the population could be affected, who were warned to leave the area and those who could not do so to enter shelters, basements or lower floors. Ammonia is a colorless gas with a pungent odor asphyxiating, soluble in water, explosive and toxic. It is lighter than air, so shelters, basements and lower floors should be used to protect from it.
