“Welcome to Chairolandia”: Vicente Fox thrashed Q4 after chaos at Cancun Airport

The president expressed irony to point out the current administration's lack of commitment to addressing the issue of insecurity.

The former president, Vicente Fox, discredited the official version that the Quintana Roo authorities provided about the incident that caused chaos in Terminal 3 of the Airport Cancun International, on March 28.

A few minutes before noon, passengers and employees of the terminal stampeded from the premises before what first testimonies indicated of a shooting or explosion. A version that in the course of the investigations - and after them - was discarded by the National Guard, the Attorney General's Office of the State (FGE) and the Secretariat of Security Public (SSP).

Despite this, the activist of National Action (PAN) dismissed the final report on his Twitter account in which, ironically, he mentioned “that there are no more massacres” - this, to insinuate that the current administration is evading its responsibility for the recent violent events.

Terminal 3 of Cancun Airport records a considerable number of international flight takeoffs and landings, especially in the almost coming Easter season.

That is why in the videos released, several people were seen desperate to flee from the place from which the rumble was perceived, as well as an intense mobilization of the National Guard and Armed Forces corps.

In addition, it should be remembered that Quintana Roo has been hit by a wave of violence involving the discovery of bodies, shootings and homicides. Hence, the first hypotheses of a possible shooting at the airport gained strength, which was replicated by media or journalists, such as Carlos Loret de Mola and Azucena Uresti.

“What anguish. What uncertainty. Until when? Report C5 gunfire at Terminal 3 (...) Code Red is activated”, wrote the media collaborator such as Milenio and Radio Formula. Meanwhile, Loret only shared the news.

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) together with the Southeast Airport Group (ASUR) clarified that there was no shooting at Cancun International Airport, since it was the fall of three signs that, when pushed, caused panic among the attendees and caused several run out of the place.

Through a publication on Twitter, they stressed that “the alert situation was caused by the fall of three signs when they were inadvertently pushed, which caused the untimely exit of users due to the roar”.

The magnitude of the noise was due to the fact that the ads weighed approximately 50 kilos, a situation that caused a great detonation and immediately caused people to start mobilizing without understanding what was happening.

For this misunderstanding, the SICT explained: “The shooting at Cancun International Airport denies the Cancun International Airport: at no time was the security of the facilities or the public using this area at risk.”

The activities of the site had to be suspended, however, the Operational Center of the Cancun International Airport resumed operations at 14:23 hours, after the origin of that sound was confirmed and it was assured that “there was no risk, nor is there any risk to people or aircraft”.
