Saturday, March 26:

4:00: The mayor of the city of Slavútych, Yurii Fomichev, reported that Russian troops have shelled with tanks, mortars and anti-aircraft guns the area, close to the nuclear plant where Chernobyl personnel work.

“The third day of struggle. They didn't enter the city. The fight is taking place on the outskirts. We don't give up the city, but the forces are not equal,” he said. The authority added that during the course of this Saturday the data on possible victims will be known, according to the news agency Unian.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned Thursday night that Russian troops had bombed Ukrainian checkpoints in the city. In this regard, the regulatory authority of Ukraine warned that the bombing had endangered “the homes and families of operational personnel who ensure nuclear and radiation safety”.

3:30: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine assured that Russian troops continue to regroup with the aim of “resuming offensive operations” for to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

In a statement on his official Facebook profile, he detailed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces seek to “consolidate and retain previously occupied borders” in the Slobozhansky area, near the city of Sumy. In addition, they indicated that Russian troops are trying to “block their units” around Kharkiv.

In the vicinity of this city, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have assured that “the enemy” restricts the movement of civilians “by establishing a network of checkpoints”, according to the authorities' evening report.

3:00: British Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss announced this Saturday that the United Kingdom will provide vital food supplies to the besieged cities of Ukraine worth nearly two and a half million euros, after Ukrainian authorities asked Western countries for non-perishable food.

The United Kingdom reported that warehouses are being prepared in Poland and Slovakia to supply the products to the Government of Ukraine starting early next week, as Truss explained in a statement, detailing that 25 loaded trucks “will be transported by road and rail to Ukrainian communities more in need”.

“This rapid donation is essential, as the deadline is closing to reach already besieged towns and cities, as well as those at high risk,” said the British Foreign Minister, who assured that there are currently at least 12 million Ukrainians in need of humanitarian aid.

01:50: The Ukrainian Army noted that, despite the fact that the Russian advance has stalled in recent days, a large-scale attack on the capital Kiev is still not ruled out.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have linked the slow progress of the Russian Army to the shortage of food and fuel, as well as to the very resistance of Ukrainian soldiers.

However, the Ukrainian Intelligence has warned that Moscow was beginning to set up special units in Dagestan, a Russian republic in the Caucasus, whose objective would be to take over the Ukrainian capital.

In recent days, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have reported that their troops have managed to regain control of several positions and localities in the vicinity of Kiev, although the situation in the eastern part of the country, in the Donbas region, is not so encouraging. The authorities acknowledged on Friday that the Russian Army has taken control of some cities in the Donetsk region, and that other towns were under siege, such as Mariupol.
