Vietnam bike parts threatened with dumping suit in Argentina

Vietnamese bike parts will likely face a dumping lawsuit in Argentina after witnessing similar actions in Canada and the European Union recently, said the Vietnamese Trade Ministry recently.

Companies in Argentina have filed a petition to the country?s national committee of foreign trade asking for a dumping investigation into different types of bicycle and motorbike spokes imported from Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Under Argentine rules, the committee will verify the validity of the petition for 10 days, and if accurate, spend another 45 days to decide whether to start an investigation.

The committee will then send questionnaires to concerned parties who are required to give feedback within 30 days.

In response, the Vietnamese Trade Ministry has asked the Vietnam Bicycle and Motorcycle Association and local exporters to prepare sufficient documents to cope with the case.

The EU has already imposed an anti-dumping tariff of 34.5 per cent on Vietnamese bikes since July. Anti-dumping measures are applied when goods are found to be priced below production costs when exported to a foreign market.
