(ATR) With just over a year to go before the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, some of the world’s top rowers got their chance to test out the venue where they would compete for medals.

The rowing test event at Lake Lanier was held in late June 1995. The venue is about an hour north of the center of Atlanta. Still used by a rowing club and available for world championship competitions, the rowing venue remains a legacy of the Centennial Olympic Games.

Dennis Oswald, at that time the president of the international federation, was on hand to witness the test event. An IOC member as well, he had flown to Atlanta from the just ended IOC Session held in Budapest the week before. He is interviewed in this edition of In the Moment by Around the Rings Editor Ed Hula.
