A neighbor of Oscar Pistorius testified on Monday that she heard gunshots and "terrified screaming" the night the Olympian shot Reeva Steenkamp.

Anette Stipp's testimony opened week four of the double-amputee's murder trial.

Stipp told the Pretoria High Court that on the morning of February 14, 2013, she heard a series of three shots, a woman screaming, a man screaming and then three more shots before the screaming stopped.

According to a report on CNN, Stipp told chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel she assumed a "family murder" had occurred.

Stipp added, "There was definitely a female screaming for quite a period.

"You could definitely hear two different voices."

Stipp's testimony matched some of the testimony from other witnesses who have said they heard a woman screaming before dawn on Valentine's Day of 2013.

Last week, the trial was suspended following a request from the prosecution for time to consult witnesses. The prosecution has now called 18 of more than 100 potential witnesses set to testify against the double-amputee.

Pistorius is charged with the premeditated murder of his late girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The Olympian says he thought she was an intruder in his Johannesburg home.

On March 3, Pistorius pleaded not guilty to one charge of murder and a firearms charge associated with Steenkamp's killing. If convicted, Pistorius faces 25 years in jail.

ESPN says judicial officials predict the trial will conclude on May 16, with a recess in April.
