E-Sports to Join 2022 Asian Games Program

(ATR) The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Alisports have partnered to include electronic sports (e-sports) in the 2022 Asian Games program as its popularity grows rapidly among youth around the world.

Online publication CNETwrongfullyspeculates with this new partnership, e-sports will be included in the Olympic program. Unfortunately, this is still much to be done to gain entry into the Games.

The road to the Olympics is a long and winding process with obstacles ranging from the filing of petitions to being recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) standing in the way.

E-sports have not only been admitted into the 2022 Asian Games but will be tried as a demonstration sport at both theOCA’s 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan andthe 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.

The partners have said by 2022, e-sports will become an official medal sport.

"The Olympic Council of Asia has constantly been committed to the heritage, development and improvement of Asian sports, and we are extremely pleased about the strategic partnership with Alisports" OCA president Sheikh Ahmad said in a statement.

"We look forward to further collaboration with Alisports in regards to digital sports concepts along with sporting events. We are sure that the extensive organizing capabilities of Alisports, and their experience in e-sports, will assist the OCA in developing all sports."

Under the partnership with the OCA, Alisports intends to execute digital marketing strategies to help open the market for increased advertising by major sponsors for the Games.

The 2022 Asian Games will be held inHangzhou, China on Sept. 10-25.
