(Bloomberg) -- Sotheby’s vendió un diamante de 101,38 quilates por HK$95,1 millones (US$12,3 millones) en criptomoneda, convirtiéndose en la joya más cara vendida a través de ese tipo de pago, dijo la casa de subastas.
El diamante en forma de pera, llamado “The Key 10138”, fue vendido a un coleccionista privado no identificado el viernes, dijo Sotheby’s en un comunicado. La joya de Diacore es el segundo diamante en forma de pera más grande jamás vendido públicamente, indicó.
Antes de la venta, la casa de subastas internacional dijo que recibiría bitcóin o ether como pago por el diamante, que se vendió por menos de la estimación de hasta US$15 millones en la oferta de lote único en Hong Kong. La subasta fue transmitida en vivo y no atrajo más de una docena de ofertas.
Anteriormente en la semana, Sotheby’s dijo que era el objeto físico más caro jamás ofrecido públicamente para compra con criptomoneda.
Las casas de subastas aceptan cada vez más criptomonedas como pago. Phillips ofreció una pieza del artista Banksy el mes pasado con ether o bitcóin. Christie’s aceptó el pago en ether en marzo por la venta récord de US$69,3 millones de “Everydays: the First 5,000 Days” de Beeple.
