Given these forecasts, the local agency issued a series of recommendations for citizens to avoid heat stroke, including using sunscreen, wearing light-colored clothing, wearing sunglasses, hats or caps, not being exposed to the sun for long periods and avoiding eating food in the public road, since food is easily spoiled by the heat.

This Sunday, April 3, the maximum temperatures recorded in the capital were found at the stations of Merced, with 28.9 degrees Celsius, Gustavo A. Madero (28.4), Agrícola Oriental (28.4), General Hospital of Mexico (28.2), Legaria (28.2), Tulyehualco (28.1), Environmental Analysis (28.0), UAM Iztapalapa (27.9), Benito Juarez (27.7), Miguel Hidalgo, (27.6), Benito Juarez SGIRPC (27.6), Cuautepec (27.3), Tlahuac (27), Pedregal (26.7), UAM Xochimilco (26.5), Santa Fe (26.4), Milpa Alta (26.1) and Topilejo, with 22.9 degrees Celsius.

Recently, the CDMX Government indicated that the heat wave was motivated by the 20 forest fires that occurred on April 2 in various mayors in the south of the capital, such as Xochimilco, Tlalpan, Milpa Alta and Magdalena Contreras, which also reported poor air quality in the area southeast, according to the Directorate-General for Air Quality.

According to the Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) of the CDMX, personnel from the Commission on Natural Resources and Rural Development (Corenadr) carried out mitigation and control work in various regions in the south of the city since 11:10 a.m. this Sunday. The accidents occurred in the following districts: Arco and Chamilta (Xochimilco); El Tanque in Ajusco, Las Ratas in Topilejo, Ashtrays in Ajusco, Llano de la Viuda, Tianguillo in Ajusco (Tlalpan); West of Calzahuates, Tezonyehualo, Tuzancuacuasco, Tlaxixilpa, Tecorral and La Encinera (Milpa Alta); Old Range (Magdalena Contreras).

Faced with this situation, users of social networks commented that a strong smell of smoke and burning could be perceived in various mayors. Claudia Sheibaum Pardo also commented on the matter and indicated that grassland fires were also recorded in the southern area, as well as in Morelos and the State of Mexico (Edomex).

The weather conditions, accompanied by the foregoing forest fires, caused the Atmospheric Monitoring System to announce that on Saturday, April 2, high levels of polluting particles O3, PM10 and PM2.5 were recorded, as well as an index of 136 ozone points, so that quality was reported as “very bad” for CDMX and Edomex.

While in the Coyoacán and Tlalpan mayors the air quality was “extremely poor”, in Miguel Hidalgo, Cuajimalpa, Iztacalco, Álvaro Obregón, Venustiano Carranza and Iztapalapa it was reported as “very bad”; in Gustavo A. Madero it was recorded as “bad”. Meanwhile, the affected municipalities in the Edomex were Nezahualcoyotl, Chalco and Ecatepec.
