Bach Meets With USOC, Boston 2024 Officials -- Monday Memo

(ATR) IOC president Thomas Bach will visit the headquarters of the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Feb. 3.

ATReditor Ed Hula will be at the USOC's headquarters to cover Bach's visit.

Bach also plans to meet with Boston 2024 officials this week, Around the Ringshas learned.Boston 2024 is the private group behind the city's bid for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

The IOC chief met former U.S. president Bill Clinton over the weekend and is also due to meet Henry Kissinger, the last honorary member of the IOC, at some stage on his U.S trip.

Alpine World Ski Championships

On Feb. 2, Bach will attend the opening ceremony of the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek, Colorado.

Bach, USOC chairman Larry Probst and CEO Scott Blackmun, and several IOC members plan to stay in Vail/Beaver Creek to watch the women’s super G on Feb. 3.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) expectsover 70 countries will participate in the alpine world ski championships this year.

ATREuropean correspondent Brian Pinelli will be in Vail/Beaver Creek this week to cover the event,which ends Feb. 15.

Tokyo 2020 Project Review

The IOC Coordination Commission for the 2020 Summer Olympics is visiting TokyoFeb. 4-5 to check in on preparations for the Games.

Members of the coordination commission, which is chaired by John Coates, includeMikaela Cojuangco Jaworski, Kirsty Coventry, Anita DeFrantz, Guy Drut, Habu Gumel, Nicole Hoeverstz, Robin E. Mitchell, Lydia Nsekera, Irena Szewinska and Zaiqing Yu.

Baku Coordination Commission

The final coordination commission for the 2015 European Games meets in Baku, Azerbaijan on Feb.5.

Baku 2015 saysover 6,000 athletes from 50 NOCs will compete in 20 sports at the event.The inaugural edition of the European Games officially opens on June 12, 2015.

Fed Cup First Round

The first round of competition in the 2015 Fed Cup takes place Feb. 7-8.

Competition in the 53rd edition will serve as a qualifier for women's tennis at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.The final for the 2015 Fed Cup is scheduled for Nov. 14-15.

World Wheelchair Curling Championship

Lohja, Finland is hosting the 2015 World Wheelchair Curling Championship Feb. 7-14.

In 2013, Sochi staged the event and Canada's team took home the gold medal.

FIFA Africa Cup of Nations

The FIFA 2015 Africa Cup of Nations runs through Feb. 8.

The 30th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations was originally scheduled to take place in Morocco. Following an Ebola outbreak in West Africa, tournament officials changed the host country toEquatorial Guinea.
