Athletes can today apply for the 2015 edition of Istanbul’s world-famous race

Applications for the 27th edition of the Samsung BosphorusCross-Continental Swimming Race will open today as Istanbul anticipates another recordyear for the city’s legendary annual event.

Istanbul’s iconic Bosphprus strait, which connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara,will on 26 July 2015 host the gruelling 6.5km race from Asia to Europe for the 27th time.

The race has a tradition of attracting high-profile global figures – last year hosting Dutchswimmer Inge de Bruijn as the competition’s celebrity guest, as well as Britain’s PippaMiddleton as a participating swimmer. Last year’s race attracted a record 1,661 swimmersfrom around the world, with Turkey’s own Hasan Emre Musluoglu winning gold with a time of41 minutes and 26 seconds.

Professor Dr. Uğur Erdener commented:

"The Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race is a truly unique event andone which attracts more and more athletes – of all ages and abilities – every year. Last yearwe welcomed a record number of participants from all over the world, and this year weexpect even more swimmers to compete against Istanbul’s stunning backdrop."

Applications can be made from 14.00 local time on 12 January at www.bogazici.cc.
