Hundred-seventy days to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and Rio City Hall makes public a new video showing an aerial view of the Olympic Park with images captured by a drone. In less than two minutes one can have a glimpse of how advanced the construction is; the Park reached the 97% mark end of January and three venues are already concluded (Carioca Arena 1, Arena of the Future and the IBC).

The Olympic Park is the heart of the Rio 2016 Games: it occupies an area of 1.18 million square meters, where 16 Olympic disciplines will be hosted (basketball, track cycling, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, handball, judo, Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling, synchronized swimming, swimming, water polo, diving, taekwondo, fencing and tennis) – and also 9 Paralympic modalities (wheelchair basketball, boccia, cycling, football 5-a-side, goalball, judo, swimming, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis).

After the Games, the Olympic park will be a spacious sports and educational complex for the Barra and Jacarepaguá region, to be used by students from the public system, high-performance athletes, social projects and events. An important legacy at the park is the transformation of Carioca Arena 3 into an Olympic Experimental School (GEO, in Portuguese) for 1,000 students, converging full-time sports practice (10 disciplines) and education up to 8thgrade under the same roof.
