Paris reaffirms hosting capabilities with city centre Formula E race

Paris, the French capital city bidding to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has reaffirmed its capabilities and experience in hosting international sports events in the heart of the city after the Visa Paris ePrix attracted more than 15,000 fans for round seven of the FIA governed Formula E series.

The circuit was located at the Hôtel national des Invalides, the proposed Archery venue for the 2024 Games. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Musée de l'Armée, the race was also in close proximity to several other proposed 2024 venues including the iconic Eiffel Tower which will overlook the Beach Volleyball competition and the River Seine which will become a ‘river trail’ of live sites, sports demonstration and sponsor activation zones bringing the Games to life in the heart of Paris.

Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, said:

"Hosting this race in the heart of Paris is a way to put the city at the service of sport and we are delighted to offer a stunning setting for this incredible event. It is also a way to take action to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions. Today, we celebrate the forward-thinking innovation of these amazing high-performance electric cars and we underline our commitment to move forward towards a more sustainable way of life for future generations."

Paris 2024 CEO, Etienne Thobois, said:

"This weekend we have witnessed another fantastic international sport event in the heart of Paris, reaffirming the city’s status as a world class sporting destination. It is inspiring to see more than 15,000 fans turning out to watch the race and this highlights the passion and hunger Parisians and people across France have for major sporting events taking place in the centre of the city.

"With its amazing backdrops and iconic city centre landmarks, Paris' unique blend of traditional and modern presents a fantastic setting for incredible live sporting experiences and broadcast opportunities. The city’s reputation as a hub for international sport provides the ideal platform to extend the core values of the Olympic Movement to a new generation of fans around the world, inspiring more young people to follow and participate in sport."

"Formula E is the world's first fully-electric racing series and its environmentally friendly values mirror Paris 2024’s commitment to sustainability and green initiatives."
