(ATR) IOC president Thomas Bach will attend the inauguration of the Sports for Hope Center in Haiti on Tuesday.

The Sports for Hope Center is the IOC's second Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC). The first was built in Lusaka, Zambia in 2010.

The goal for the IOC in opening OYDCs is to"provide young people and communitiesin developing countries with positive sportand lifestyle opportunities and to promote the principles and values of Olympism."

2014 British Open

The oldest of the four major championships in professional golf begins Thursday at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Top British Open contenders include defending champion Phil Mickleson, 25-year-old Rory McIlroy, Australian golf star Adam Scott, Spain's Sergio Garcia, and German professional golferMartin Kaymer.

Competition continues through July 20.

IGF Presser; Qualification for 2016 Olympics

The 143rd British Open kicks off the qualification period for golfers hoping to compete at the 2016 Olympics.The International Golf Federation is holding a press conference on Monday to discuss the start to the qualification period for the 2016 Games.

The qualification period for 2016 Olympic road cycling begins Tuesday.

Fencing World Championships

The 2014 Fencing World Championships begin on Wednesday in Kazan, Russia.

Competition ends July 23.

PyeongChang 2018 Construction

Construction on the Ice Hockey 1 Arena, which will stage competition during the 2018 Olympics, begins in PyeongChang, South Korea onThursday.

The 2018 Winter Olympic Games begin on February 9, 2018.

Pan American Olympic Festival

The Pan American Olympic Festival opens on Saturday, July 19 in Mexico City.

The Pan American Sports Organization created the Pan American Olympic Festival to bring together coaches, athletes, and international judges for competition and knowledge transfer.

The festival will take place all over Mexico during July, August, and September. For 23 sports in the Pan American program there will be training camps, coaching clinics, and competition in different venues across Mexico.

Run Celebrates London 2012 Legacy

The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run takes place on Sunday, July 20.

The five-mile course will feature a number of iconic arenas around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park including:Lee Valley VeloPark, the London Aquatics Center, and the Copper Box Arena.
