Rio 2016 Torch Relay Arrives in Brazil -- ATRadio

(ATR) Around the Rings Rio Bureau chief Aaron Bauer flew with the Rio 2016 Olympic flame from Lausanne, Switzerland to Brasilia, Brazil to kick off the Rio 2016 torch relay across the host country.

Bauer joins ATR Editor Ed Hula on this edition of ATRadio to talk about the Olympic flame's journey from Switzerland and the beginning of the Brazilian torch relay.

He says the torch relay has been one of the most unique experiences he's reported on as a journalist within the Olympic Movement.

"It's been a hectic week with multiple stops on two continents," he says. "Carlos Nuzman has been there every step of the way. He recognizes the value that the flame brings to preparations. He was the first person to carry the Olympic flame in Brazil in a special moment."

Bauer says there was a quick ceremony with pictures at the airport when the flame arrived but that it immediately was taken to the President's Palace in Brasilia where it was greeted by President Dilma Rousseff and other Brazilian officials.

The flame now begins its 95-day trek across the 26 states in Brazil before lighting the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony of the Games on Aug. 5.
