(ATR) Around the Rings is told Keith Joseph may soon withdraw from the race to become the next president of the Pan American Sports Organization.
Joseph has not been able to confirm his withdrawal as he has beentraveling to and from the headquarters of the St. Vincent and GrenadinesOlympic Committee of which Joseph is the secretary general, according to staff at the committee.
The news follows meetings of the Central American and Caribbean Sport Organization and Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees in Barranquilla, Colombia where Joseph and fellow presidential candidates Carlos Nuzman and Jose Puello were in attendance.
A withdrawal by Joseph would leave a three-man race for the presidency of PASO. Brazilian Olympic Committee chief Nuzman, Chilean Olympic Committee chief Neven Ilic and former Dominican Republic NOC president Puello would be the remaining contenders.
St. Lucia Olympic Committee president Richard Peterkin has already detailed to ATR his intention to withdraw from the race.
"I have not formally withdrawn, but will do so once the dust clears and there is a greater consensus on a single candidate, whether from the Caribbean or other regions of the Americas," Peterkin tells ATR.
"No clear indication yet, but there was some movement during the CACSO/CANOC meetings in Barranquilla," Peterkin says. "I will probably withdraw at the PASO General Assembly in Punta del Este, [Uruguay] if not earlier, but I continue to communicate with all of the candidates, and the fog is lifting.
"It’s all about a good team, not just a good President."
The 41 NOCs that comprise PASO will choose the next president at the assembly Peterkin mentions scheduled to take place from April 23-26 near the Uruguayan capital Montevideo, home to current PASO president Julio Maglione.
