Billy Payne to World Golf Hall of Fame

(ATR) He came up with the idea to host the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. But it is his post-Olympic life as chairman of Augusta National Golf Club that has earned Billy Payne a spot in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Payne will be inducted as a member of the HOF for 2019 in a ceremony near Pebble Beach, scene of the U.S. Open later this week. Joining with Payne are Peggy Kirk Bell, Retief Goosen, Jan Stephenson and Dennis Walters.

ATR First: Boxing Federation Plots Strategy After IOC Blow

(ATR) AIBA’s leaders will hold an extraordinary executive committee on June 27 to discuss how to deal with being stripped of Olympic boxing hosting rights.

Federation chiefs have been keeping their counsel after the IOC’s ruling body last month delivered its damning verdict, suspending AIBA based on a 30-page report from an inquiry commission that evaluated the IF’s governance, ethics, financial affairs and refereeing. It concluded that "serious governance issues remain".

Around the Rings has learned that interim AIBA president Mohamed Moustahsane has called the emergency meeting in a bid to plot a strategy forward for the beleaguered federation.

Stockholm Olympic Bid Receives Regional Government Support

(ATR) The three regions in Sweden’s 2026 Games plan have thrown their full support behind an Olympic bid they say offers minimal financial risks and multiple economic benefits.

A joint letter signed by the executive council chairs of the regions – Stockholm, Jämtland Härjedalen, Dalarna – slated to host events at the Stockholm Åre 2026 Olympics underlines their support for bringing the Winter Games to Sweden for the first time.

Milan-Cortina 2026: Transportation 'Surprise' for Athletes

(ATR) Lengthy travel times between city and mountain venue clusters in the Milan-Cortina 2026 bid could pose significant challenges, according to the IOC.

Travel time – combining rail and road travel – between Milan and the Cortina mountain cluster is estimated at five hours, 30 minutes. Milan to Val di Fiemme could take 3 hours, 30 minutes, while Milan to Bormio and Livigno is anticipated at 2 hours, 30 minutes and 3 hours, 30 minutes respectively.
