(ATR) The eight additional sports under consideration for the 2020 Olympic program must submit further details to Tokyo 2020 by July 22.
The organizing committee announced the IOC-recognized international federations proposing additional events for the Games on June 22. A total of 28 sports are already on the program.
At the start of the process, the Additional Event Program Panel sorted through 26 interested applicants.On the shortlist are baseball/softball, bowling, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, surfing and wushu.
Games organizers will hold talks with each of the federations in Tokyo, August 7-8.Tokyo 2020 will propose its final additional events proposal to the IOC by Sept. 30.
Final approval will come at the 129th IOC Session in Rio in August 2016.
Aquatics World Championships
Kazan, Russia will host the 2015 World AquaticsChampionships, July 24-Aug. 9.This marks the first time that Russia will host the event.
Competition will include events in swimming, open water swimming, diving and high diving, synchronized swimming and water polo.
The high diving competition will also serve as a qualifier for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

World Archery in Copenhagen
The 2015 World Archery Championships will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, July 26-Aug. 2.Over 600 athletes will compete at this year's world championships.
This will also be the first opportunity for athletes competing in recurve events to secure qualification for their NOCs at the 2016 Rio Games.
The World Archery Congress will precede competition, July 24-25, in Denmark.
2018 FIFA World Cup Draw
The preliminary draw for the 2018 FIFA Men's World Cup takes place on July 25 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Saturday's draw will determine qualifying fixtures for the World Cup.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter will be in attendance and plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his stay in St. Petersburg.
CONCACAF Gold Cup
The semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup take place on Wednesday night in Atlanta.
The championship is scheduled for Sunday, July 26 in Philadelphia.
Pan Am Games
Competition in the 2015 Pan American Games is moving along in Toronto.
Organizers of the Pan American Games sayapproximately 650,000 people bought tickets to the games in the weeks leading up to the event.
Over 6,000 athletes from 41 countries are participating in the Games.Competition, which ends on July 26, includes some 364 events in 36 sports.
Special Olympics World Games
The 2015 Special Olympics World Games open in Los Angeles on July 25.
LA2015 says this will mark the largest multi-sport event in L.A. since the 1984 Summer Olympics. Some 6,500 athletes will compete at the games.

Basketball World Championship
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is staging the U19 women's world championship in Chekhov, a town in the Russian federal subject Moscow Oblast.
This week, competition opens with a game between Belgium and Canada.

BMX World Championships
The International Cycling Union is staging the 2015 BMX World Championships in the Belgian municipalityHeusden-Zolder.
Riders will compete on a 380m track built at the formerFormula 1 track Circuit Zolder, July 21-25.
Athletics Diamond League in London
The International Association of Athletics Federations is hosting the next meet of the 2015 Diamond League season on July 24 in London.
Stockholm, Sweden will host the next meet of the 2015 Diamond League season on July 30.
Tour de France
The 102nd Tour de France is underway.
It is the eighteenth race of the UCI's 2015 World Tour.
The final stage of the tour will take place on July 26.
