Medals and bragging rights are on the line as USA Weightlifting launches the first National Garage Championships presented by Caffeine & Kilos, an innovative Olympic weightlifting competition held completely online May 13-16.

"Our 2020 online competitions came out of necessity. With the pandemic turning the world upside down, we were forced to transform our in-person events to online competitions," USA Weightlifting Director of Events and Sponsorships Pedro Meloni said. "After the great success of those online events, we wanted to create a championship that was designed exclusively for an online environment."

Qualification standards will mirror those of the 2021 North American Open Series and medals will be awarded in Total in the Open, Masters and Youth (16-17, 14-15 and U13) categories.

Registration opens January 27 and closes at 2PM Mountain time, Thursday, April 22. Qualification dates are from April 19, 2020 to April 18, 2021. Athletes can use totals from any USAW-sanctioned in-person or online competitions (e.g. 2020 Virtual American Open Series 3, 2020 Online National Championships), or through our monthly online qualifier competitions. The cost to register is $75

Like other USAW online events, athletes will be able to compete at home, or at their local gym. The same rules for USAW online events will apply except that now, athletes following themselves will receive a three minute clock instead of the usual two.

"This is just another opportunity for our members to compete in the sport we love," Meloni said.

The competition will be held via Zoom and streamed at www.USAWeightlifting.org. Further details will be provided closer to the competition.
