The ISSF Junior World Cup is underway in Suhl, Germany

Hungary’s Istavn Peni and Malta’s Nathan Lee Xuereb pocketed the first individual Gold medals in the Olympic Shooting events, and they will continue until Thursday, May 5th.

Hungary’s Istavn Peni and Malta’s Nathan Lee Xuereb pocketed the first individual Gold medals in the Olympic Shooting events, and they will continue until Thursday, May 5th.

Suhl (GER) - The first junior competition of the 2016 ISSF season officially opened yesterday in Suhl (GER), where 585 athletes from 48 different countries are battling for a medal in the 15 Olympic Shooting events, also taking part in some unofficial events such as the Target Sprint.

The competition is taking places at the Suhl Shooting Centre in Suhl (GER), where in 2017 the first edition of the ISSF Youth World Championship is planned.

In yesterday’s opening match, Hungary’s Istvan Peni secured the 1st place in the 50m Rifle Prone Men Junior event, followed on the 2nd step of the podium by Norway’s Vegard Nordhagen and by Sweden’s Ludwig Wassman, the Bronze medallist.

In the second official event of day 1, Malta’s Nathan Lee Xuereb bested Great Britain’s James Dedman in the Gold medal match of the Double Trap Men Junior event, claiming his first international victory as a junior shooter.

In the previous Bronze medal match, Russian Federation’s Viacheslav Yukhimenko prevailed over Italy’s Andrea Galesso.

The ISSF Junior World Cup will continue today with three official final matches: the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women Junior, scheduled at 12:00 PM (UTC+2), the 10m Air Pistol Men Junior at 2:30 PM and the 10m Air Pistol Women Junior at 3:30 PM.
