Wu Pledges to Push African Olympics
IOC presidential candidate CK Wu says holding an Olympics in Africa would be a goal of his if elected.
"The Olympic Games have taken place on all five continents but Africa, and therefore I will do my utmost to help bring about an African Games [if elected]," Wu said in speaking with CNA.
Wu mentioned that although Africa lacks financing and training center, he has established training centers in Zambia and Algeria.
"Africa’s athletic performance and the resources it has access to are really disproportionate," said Wu.
Cape Town, South Africa finished third out of five cities in the race to host the 2004 Summer Olympics, a bid that instead went to Athens.
Brazilian Footballer Supports Tokyo
Brazilian footballer and Japanese coach Zico officially endorsed Tokyo 2020’s bid for the Olympics.
Zico said Tokyo’s ability to host large sporting events and the Japanese passion for sport would allow for a superb Games to be hosted there.
"Tokyo is totally ready and I would be very happy if they were to win the honor of hosting the Games," said Zico.
"Japan is a country that always seeks to provide the best hospitality for everyone who comes to the country. The facilities, transportation, accommodation and communication - everything is easy. I think Japan is now fully prepared to host."
