El presidente interino Robin Mitchell se postula a la presidencia de ACNO en las elecciones de 2022

“Confirmo mi intención de presentarme a la presidencia de ACNO en 2022″, afirmó Mitchell en la XXV Asamblea General que ACNO celebra hasta el lunes en la isla griega de Creta.

CRETA (GRECIA) - El presidente en funciones de la Asociación de Comités Nacionales Olímpicos (ACNO), el fiyiano Robin Mitchell, anunció este domingo su intención de concurrir a las elecciones por la presidencia del organismo que se celebrarán en 2022.

“Confirmo mi intención de presentarme a la presidencia de ACNO en 2022″, afirmó Mitchell en la sesión matinal de la XXV Asamblea General que ACNO celebra hasta el lunes en la isla griega de Creta.

Mitchell es el presidente interino de ACNO desde 2018, cuando sustituyó a Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah. El jeque kuwaití abandonó la presidencia después de ser acusado de falsificación de pruebas por un tribunal suizo.

La justicia en Ginebra determinó el pasado 10 de septiembre que Al-Sabah, junto a tres abogados y un asesor, elaboró vídeos falsos para perjudicar a miembros del gobierno kuwaití, con los que mantiene un largo enfrentamiento, para intentar culparlos de un presunto intento de golpe de estado en ese país.

Tras ser condenado a condenado a 14 meses de prisión, más otros 15 de prisión suspendida, Al-Sabah anunció que apelará la decisión judicial y que dejará temporalmente su cargo de presidente del Consejo Olímpico de Asia, que dirigía desde 1991.

Con su anuncio, Mitchell es el primer candidato en postular su candidatura a una presidencia por la que también podría competir el chileno Neven Ilic, actual presidente de Panam Sports, la Organización Deportiva Panamericana antes conocida como ODEPA.

Presente en la Asamblea General que se celebra en la isla más grande de Grecia, Ilic dejó entrever días antes de viajar a Creta su predisposición a presentarse como candidato en los comicios que se celebrarán el próximo año.

“Yo me planteo lo que sea necesario. Hay mucha gente muy capaz, pero obviamente está la disponibilidad. Si de alguna manera puedo servir en esa misión, estoy disponible”, afirmó el presidente de Panam Sports en una entrevista con la agencia EFE.

“Yo estoy muy compenetrado con lo que estoy haciendo en Panam Sports, me gusta mucho y todavía tengo muchos desafíos. Y ACNO requiere una dedicación completa, así que veremos quién puede hacer el mejor trabajo y esa persona debería ser quien dirija ACNO”, concluyó Ilic.
