Pedro Gallese spoke in a recent interview and touched on many issues regarding the Peruvian national team. The goalkeeper who plays today in the MLS flattered Ricardo Gareca for his great work and how well the players understand each other with him. In addition, he confessed who was the footballer who surprised him the most when he reached the 'blanquirroja'.
“Ricardo came up with new ideas and a new format. The players understood it very well. He's a guy who works a lot. With him, we grew little by little and now we are the team that is not only in the qualifiers to meet, but now we participate for a quota in the World Cup. The friendship we have makes it easier to work. Then I already know how he thinks and he knows how we think. The work is much easier,” he commented in an interview with MisterChip on the Twitch platform.
With the match against Paraguay at the National Stadium, Pedro Gallese completed 89 matches defending the 'bicolor' and along the way he has met several players that the 'Tigre' summoned. However, he revealed who was the one who surprised him the most when he first arrived at La Videna. “When I first came to the national team, I was impressed with Paolo Guerrero, as a brand, he is a benchmark,” said the goalkeeper.
The 'Octopus' was the only national team to play every match (18) and every minute of the South American Qualifiers heading to Qatar 2022, leaving their fence undefeated five times. His best performances were in visiting victories against Ecuador 2-1 in Quito and against Colombia 1-0 in Barranquilla.
His next match for Orlando City will be this Wednesday, April 20 against Tampa Bay Rowdies, in the framework of the thirty-finals of the US Open Cup. The meeting will begin at 06:00 p.m. (Peruvian time). His club comes from a 2-0 victory over the Columbus Crew, as part of matchday 10 of the MLS.
GARECA'S WAKE-UP CALL TO GALLESE
At another point in the interview, Pedro Gallese confessed that Ricardo Gareca almost sent him to the substitute bench for trying to play in a way that the strategist didn't like. This action took place in a friendly against Mexico. The 'Tiger' showed him the play later and it caught his attention.
“At first, in some friendlies, he sat me down and told me he didn't like me. If you're going to put me on, I'll do what the technician says. It was in a Peru-Mexico at the National Stadium in 2015 or 2016. I make a hitch, I get it right, then we go out playing. The next day in a talk with Gareca, where he shows us the good and the bad, he showed me the play and told me 'you have to play more serious',” he said.
HE DOESN'T LIKE NEYMAR JR
The goalkeeper of outstanding performances in his MLS club was honest with the Spanish journalist and told him which international footballer he doesn't like very much. The main reason is because of their behaviors on the pitch that rivals don't like.
“I get along well with everyone,” said the goalkeeper in the first instance. “But, sometimes it crosses my mind, there is a player who, not that I fought with him, but he didn't take long. You can imagine a little, it's from Brazil,” he admitted, spreading on the subject. Then MisterChip quickly told him if it was Neymar and the goalkeeper stated: “He is a great player, no one denies it. Sometimes he has behaviors that the rival doesn't like, but it's part of the game and you respect.”
