Citizen Movement (MC) demanded that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) change his position on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and condemned the “massacre of civilians” in the Eastern European country and expressed his solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
Through an official statement published this Sunday, April 3, MC assured that the neutrality promoted by the national president is “unsustainable”, consequently, he demanded condemning the crimes and implementing sanctions against the Russian regime through representation in the United Nations (UN).
In this regard, they affirmed that Mexico has an obligation to condemn “these appalling events” and to promote measures that contribute to weakening Russia's financing, this in order to prevent the recurrence of cases such as what happened in Boutcha.

The orange party insisted that the government cannot remain neutral in the face of acts like this and stressed that “a month after the occupation and attacks by the Russian Federation, it is incredible that the Mexican government has not even taken a stand against these events.”
It should be recalled that the Mexican government has already officially demonstrated on four occasions against Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The first was paid by President López Obrador, the second was by Marcelo Ebrard, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), and the other two were by Juan Ramón de la Fuente, who represents Mexico at the UN.

De la Fuente Ramirez strongly condemned the deployment of Russian military troops on Ukrainian territory. The first time it did so was before the UN Security Council and the second time it was before the plenary of the United Nations.
“Mexico condemns the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine” and “We recognize the independence and territoriality of Ukraine” were some of the phrases with which the Mexican called for peace on the territory of Eastern Europe.

However, some members of the Morena National Regeneration Movement (Morena), along with others from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), installed, in San Lazaro, the Mexico-Russia Friendship Group, the parliamentary mechanism available to the Congress of the Union to strengthen ties with women legislators and legislators from other nations, something that was also condemned by MC; however, it is also noted that Porfirio Muñoz Ledo and Ricardo Monrea considered that this Group was not necessary.
“It is surprising that deputies from the majority express their support for Russia, contradicting Mexico's position in the Security Council that condemns the invasion of Ukraine as violating fundamental principles of the United Nations,” Muñoz Ledo said on social media.
On his own account, Monreal Ávila pointed out that, although he respects the formation of this Group, he does not agree with this type of legislative work being carried out. “In the Senate we are going to act wisely,” he said in a brief statement to the media. “I don't think it's appropriate to form friendship groups of that nature,” he added.
