Faced with the recent attack of an IAC in Ciudad Bolivar, Bogotá, President Iván Duque spoke on the matter on Sunday through his Twitter account. The incident left a 12-year-old boy dead and a five-year-old girl suffering from brain death.
“It hurts deeply that innocents are victims of insane acts such as the terrorist attack on the CAI of Arborizadora Alta in Bogotá. My solidarity with the families of the child under 12 who unfortunately died and the 5-year-old girl, who is in a poor state of health,” President Duque wrote on his Twitter account, rejecting the events that occurred in the town.
The president also highlighted the millionaire reward that the authorities used to clarify who is responsible for the attack. “Together with MinDefensa, MinInterior and the Mayor's Office of Bogotá, we have provided a reward of up to $300 million for information that would allow these cowards to be captured and prosecuted. Colombia unites to confront and condemn terrorism,” he said.
For her part, Mayor Claudia López explained that this reward is the highest that the city has so far. The local president also rejected the facts and has accompanied the community from the local Unified Command Post (PMU).
What is known about the attack
The explosion that occurred in the evening hours of last Saturday, March 26. According to the IPS report, 35 people were treated, 33 civilians and two police officers, of whom 17 are not hospitalized. The other 17 required additional medical attention; 11 of them were released and 6 remain in the medical centers, including a policeman.
On the other hand, 66 houses were affected by the explosive wave that broke all the windows. The District Institute for Risk Management and Climate Change (Idiger) has delivered 600 meters of plastic to temporarily cover housing windows along with 30 food kits.
It should be recalled that, on Saturday night, President Iván Duque accompanied the affected community together with Claudia López. There was also the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano; the Minister of the Interior, Daniel Palacios; the Director General of the Police, Jorge Luis Vargas Valencia; the Secretary of Security, Coexistence and Justice, Aníbal Fernández de Soto; and the Secretary of Government, Felipe Jiménez.
On the other hand, this Sunday members of the police and the community carried out a symbolic act with white balloons as a sign of indignation and condemnation of the attack with explosives. In turn, the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá (Mebog) announced a wake at 6:00 in the afternoon and a eucharist for the deceased minor.
This would be the second attack that occurs in the town of Ciudad Bolivar so far this month, it is worth remembering that an explosive device was detonated on the night of this Saturday, March 5 in near a police station in the Sierra Morena neighborhood.
“The police have no proof or confirmation of those responsible for the explosive device in Arborizadora Alta or the one that occurred in Sierra Morena. What they do know is that the modus operandi was the same,” Claudia López said through her Twitter account. For its part, the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Nation arranged a team of prosecutors and investigators to deal with and clarify the facts.
