Last Wednesday, March 16, in the afternoon, a massacre occurred in the Darío Aristizábal neighborhood, Bolombolo district, jurisdiction of the municipality of Venice (Antioquia). The event left three fatalities.
A group of armed men arrived to where these three people were leaving, a 24-year-old Venezuelan man and two girls aged 14 and 15, in the middle of Bolombolo. They then opened fire indiscriminately and without a word.
The commander of region number 6 of the National Police, Brigadier General Gustavo Franco Gómez, said that “a specialized team of criminology was moved to carry out the collection of evidence and inspection to the scene.”
In addition, according to the commander, research work is already being carried out to “continue moving forward and in the coming days we will be delivering tangible results against this organization that generated and caused this fateful event that affected the lives of these citizens”.
The mayor of the municipality of Venice, Oscar Andrés Sánchez, also spoke in this regard. He said that he asked the authorities to expeditiously investigate the incident and that the Family Commissariat and the Secretariat of Government accompanied the families of the victims.
The governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria Correa, regretted what happened in the municipality in the southwestern part of the department and promised investigations to identify motives and perpetrators.
According to the Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz), this massacre is the 23rd massacre taking place in the country during 2022, with a total of 61 fatalities. It is also the fourth to occur in Antioquia, with thirteen deaths.
It should be recalled that in 2021 96 massacres occurred and 338 lives were lost in them. Fourteen massacres occurred in Antioquia the previous year.
To achieve this, the institution expects to benefit 2,560 victims during March, residing in 107 municipalities of Antioquia with economic compensation amounting to 29,551 million pesos.
In its statement of this Wednesday, March 16, the state entity emphasizes that, “this measure of reparation favors the population prioritized to improve their living conditions and compensate for victimizing acts, such as forced displacement, homicides and forced disappearance of relatives, kidnappings, among other crimes”.
The first of these days will be held in Medellín, where 965 people who live in the capital of Antioquia and nearby municipalities will receive the corresponding compensation payments.
In total, there will be 33 days of compensation coordinated by the entity and local mayors. The transfers will be made through bank appropriations and, in turn, the Unit affirms, guidance will be provided for the proper investment of these monies and offers in education, pensions, housing and productive enterprises.
