IMSS: what are the requirements to collect a disability

The beneficiaries of the Mexican Social Security Institute may receive the payment of a disability of up to 100% if they have the need to leave their work activities due to any medical issue

If you have to be absent from work due to any medical issue, such as an accident, illness or maternity, you must apply for a disability with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). When making this request, the institution will issue a certificate of disability that will have the purpose of justifying the worker's absence from his activities according to the days required for his recovery.

It should be remembered that subsidy payments will only be valid in the following cases and based on the following percentages:

- General illness: 100% of the salary recorded in the IMSS at the beginning of the disability

- Maternity: 100% at the beginning of the 34th week of gestation and will be for the total number of days covered by the document

In order to apply for disability, workers must meet these requirements and present them at the IMSS windows in original format:

1. Official identification. It can be a credential to vote, a valid passport, a professional ID or a military service card.

2. Document containing the Social Security Number (NSS) of the worker. It can be Afore, national health card or high employer.

3. Bank statement that includes the 18-digit interbank CLABE of the policyholder. This document will only be accepted as long as the delivery time is not longer than three months and contains the name of the insured person.

The payment of the disability will be made on the third working day after the document is issued at the window of the bank authorized for the payment of subsidies in your institution, presenting the original and copy of the unique certificate of disability, as well as the valid official identification with photograph.
