MAY 21, 2003 (ATR) - Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoë says Paris will bid for the 2012 Olympics. Delanoë made the announcement at city hall with hundreds of bid supporters on hand, including sports minister Jean-François Lamour, the president of the National Olympic Committee of France Henri Henri Sérandour and actor Jean-Paul Belmondo.
Delanoë unveiled a logo and slogan for the bid "Des jeux de toutes les couleurs", "the Games of Every Color".
Paris joins New York, Madrid, Havana, Leipzig and London among the cities firmly declaring their intent to bid for 2012.
The Russian Olympic Committee will meet this week to consider whether to launch a bid from Moscow. Brazil will decide between Rio de Janiero and Sao Paolo in July.
National Olympic Committees around the world have until July 15 to submit letters of application to the IOC for the 2012 bidding. From those replies the IOC will choose a group of finalists next year to submit formal bids.
