– "Moana"

A teenage princess sets sail on the ocean to try to save her island people. If you like Broadway musicals, you might recognize the voice of "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote and performed some of the songs in this heartwarming Disney film. (Now playing, PG)

– "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"

You'll have to wait one more year to find out what happens to Rey and Finn in "Episode VIII." For now, enjoy a stand-alone movie set just before the events of "A New Hope." Felicity Jones, who also appears in "A Monster Calls," tries to help the Rebellion by stealing plans to the Death Star. (Opens Dec. 16, PG-13)

To save his struggling theater, a koala – yes, one of those cuddly leaf-eaters – decides to hold a singing competition. Gorillas, snails, porcupines and pigs all join in, belting out pop hits in this animated film. (Dec. 21, PG)

When his mother becomes sick, a bullied 12-year-old finds help and comfort from a friendly, treelike monster. Based on a novel by Patrick Ness. (Dec. 23, PG-13)

– "Hidden Figures"

The true story of three black female scientists who helped NASA's space program get off the ground. Led by physicist Katherine Johnson, they helped calculate flight paths that in 1962 allowed astronaut John Glenn to become the first American to orbit the Earth.
