With three Colombians on the court, the WTA 250 in Bogotá starts this Saturday

Maria Camila Osorio, reigning champion, is waiting for her rival in the main draw to start her title defense

The Colsanitas Cup, a tournament belonging to the WTA Circuit endowed with a prize pool of $239,477 and which begins with the matches corresponding to the first round of the qualifying table. The organization plans to start competitive activity this Saturday, April 2, starting at 10:00 a.m.

On this first day of actions, three Colombians will jump onto the brick dust courts of the Bogotá Country Club: María Paulina Pérez, María Camila Torres and Kelly Vargas. Barranquilla Pérez will have a trial by fire against the Greek Valentini Grammatikopoulou, who acts as the first qualifier of the qualifying phase; for her part Torres, who will become the first Huilense tennis player to play a WTA tournament, will play strength with the Brazilian Carolina Alves; finally, Vargas will face the Chilean Daniela Seguel.

Initially, four appeared in the local racquet group to play the qualifying round; however, at the last minute the organization confirmed an invitation letter to Yuliana Lizarazo for the main draw, for which Bolivian Noelia Zeballos took the place of the gold medallist at the last National Sports Games Bolivar 2019.

It should be noted that the qualifying rounds will deliver six squares for the main draw, an instance in which four Colombians appear; the already referenced Yuliana Lizarazo will be joined by María Fernanda Herazo, Yuliana Monroy and Camila Osorio, the last defending champion and top candidate for the title, given the 34th place she occupies currently in the WTA ranking.

The tennis player was very happy to return to play a 250 open in Colombia and hopes to have the support of the fans who saw her celebrate the title a year ago against Slovenia's Tamara Zidanšek. These were Osorio's words from his social networks to confirm his participation in the Bogotá tennis open this year:

I am very excited to play at home again, the Colsanitas Cup is almost back at the Bogotá Country Club. I am very happy to see you again and I hope you all, supporting Colombian tennis players and I hope you enjoy a little tennis, see you soon. A hug

Last year, Osorio (current world number 35 in the WTA ranking) defeated Tamara Zidansek in the final with partials of 5-7, 6-3 and 6-4, thus capturing her first title on the world's top tennis circuit.

If she succeeds in defending the championship, Osorio will become the second local tennis player with more than one title in the Colsanitas Tournament, as Fabiola Zuluaga won this competition four times: 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
