On the night of last Tuesday, March 29, there was an accident in downtown Bogotá. The driver of a taxi that ran out of brakes ended up crashing into the fountains located on the environmental axis. According to what was reported, the man realized that he had been left without the possibility of stopping, so he decided to let his car advance until it hit the low walls of the structure. According to what was detailed in the local news, no one was injured.
In a video recorded by Noticias Caracol, it was seen how firefighters and citizens who were in the sector helped to get the car out of the structure's channel. The car had serious losses, particularly on its forehead. All the consequences were material.
This case, although more slight, recalls what happened on March 2 in Bogotá, when a dump truck that ran out of brakes left on other vehicles that were in the area, on Bogotá's Circunvalar Avenue, in the direction from south to north and onto exclusive 84th Street.
The uncontrolled tractor truck took eleven vehicles on Bogotá's Circunvalar Avenue, which were also heading north. After that, it turned over and dropped all its contents onto two vehicles that were going in the opposite direction: a van and a taxi.
Witnesses and relief teams worked to rescue the occupants of the vehicles. The accident left six people injured and two dead. The Ministry of Health reported that the injured of the incident were transferred to the Clínica del Country. A 68-year-old woman who suffered bilateral wrist trauma and whiplash syndrome; a 23-year-old girl with left hip trauma; a 20-year-old man with right shoulder trauma and another 62-year-old woman with trauma to one hand.
One of those affected was a 46-year-old man who had moderate head trauma, wound in the parietal region, trauma to the chest and unstable pelvis; a 42-year-old woman was admitted to the clinic with chest and abdominal wall contusion; and another 67-year-old man suffered mild head trauma and hip trauma.
The fatal victim of the accident was Luis Alberto Clavijo who suffered severe head trauma and died at the scene of the accident. According to Semana magazine, he was 48 years old and worked 14 hours a day to pay for taxi responsibilities.
Colonel Edgar Montaña, commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, informed W Radio that another person died in the early morning of March 3, due to injuries he suffered after the accident. He is one of the three passengers in the taxi.
Shortly before the accident, which occurred around 6:35 at night, Luis Clavijo had picked up three passengers. He used to arrive at the house located in La Calera, near where death found him, at seven o'clock in the evening to have dinner with the family. He called his wife to tell her that he was doing the last race and ending the shift, but she proved to be the only fatal victim of the incident on the night of this March 2 in Bogotá.
On March 15, work began to repair and install the railing on the retaining wall affected by that vehicle accident, as reported by the Institute of Urban Development (IDU). The works were carried out between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., so there were closures
