Bilbao (Spain), 24 Mar The Basque Football Federation (FVF) has confirmed that both UEFA and FIFA have “recently” informed it that both bodies maintain their position of “not treating” at their respective congresses the request for membership “as a full member” made by the Basque federation. In its statement, the FVF recalls in December 2020 it “formally applied” to UEFA and FIFA. This request “was denied by resolutions dated 11 and 31 July 2021 issued by the Executive Committees” of both agencies. The Basque Federation then understood that, “by virtue of the statutes of both international entities”, these refusal resolutions “were issued by bodies that lacked competence”. “According to the applicable regulations, the competence to hear these issues lies with the congresses of these two institutions,” considers the FVF, which regrets that UEFA and FIFA have “maintained their initial position and have indicated that their congresses will not address this issue”.
