Sao Paulo, 24 Mar The singer Anitta, Brazilian pop queen, urged young people to get their electoral title ahead of the elections next October and thus achieve “change the president”, referring to the far-right Jair Bolsonaro. Anitta, a global sales phenomenon, took to her social networks to encourage teenagers over 16 to vote in elections, an attitude that was applauded by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). “Let's go there people... you tell me 'Anitta do something' but I can't save the country alone ( ... ),” said the Brazilian, author of hits such as “Girl from Rio”, “Downtown” and “Vai malandra”. For this reason, he implored young Brazilians to win the electoral title digitally, at a time when the rate of young people aged 16 and 17 eligible to vote does not exceed 13%, compared to 23.3% in the 2018 elections. “Let's go there, for God's sake, we're going to change our president. We're going to get that (electoral) title, I'm tired of being the Brazilian's only joy,” Anitta ironized on her Instagram Wednesday night. Anitta, whose song “Envolver” became the second most listened to in the world on the Spotify chart today, has repeatedly expressed her rejection of President Bolsonaro, in power since 2019, and went so far as to exchange a cross of accusations with now former Environment Minister Ricardo Salles. In addition to Anitta, other famous Brazilians, such as actress Bruna Marquezine or singer Zeca Pagodinho, have encouraged young people to regularize their electoral status ahead of the presidential elections. With seven months to go before the elections, Brazil is polarized between Bolsonaro and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who will be a candidate for the Workers Party after being judicially prevented from participating in the 2018 elections after being accused of corruption. According to the polls of intent to vote, Lula, whose conviction was overturned due to a procedural error, would win in a possible runoff against Bolsonaro.
