WTA president “wishes” Barty “the best”

Madrid, 23 Mar WTA President and CEO Steve Simon said of the retirement of Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty that “by reaching number one in the world, she has clearly established herself as one of the great WTA champions and we wish her the best, we know she will continue to be a tremendous ambassador of the sport of tennis as he embarks on this new chapter of his life. We will miss her.” Barty has always stood out as an unconventional tennis player, she had great success in doubles with Casey Dellacqua, reaching the finals of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open in 2013, but a year later, ranked out of the Top 200 in singles and 40 in the world in doubles, Barty - then at just 18 years old - decided take a break. “It was too fast for me, since I've been traveling from a fairly young age,” she said then adding that “I wanted to experience life as a normal teenager and have some normal experiences.”
