On March 22, the District, through the Secretariat of Security, Coexistence and Justice, carried out inspection, surveillance and control operations in the María Paz sector, in the town of Kennedy, where two people were captured for the crime of reception.
During the operations, an establishment was also temporarily suspended, an engine was recovered from a motorcycle that had been reported stolen and six other engines that had the identification systems erased were recovered.
More than 1,320 auto parts seized and 7 recovered automobiles are some of the results obtained in the development of operations carried out by the Ministry of Security, Coexistence and Justice and the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá, from January 1 to March 14 of this year.
The actions that are part of the district security strategy to combat car theft and the crime of reception have been carried out in 175 establishments selling auto parts and mechanical workshops in seven locations (Barrios Unidos, Los Martyrs, Kennedy, Antonio Nariño, Suba, Engativa, Puente Aranda) focused on the capital of the country.
“We are going to continue these actions together with the Police with new elite groups that will strengthen our actions against theft, which is one of the crimes that most affects citizens,” said the Secretary of Security, Coexistence and Justice, Aníbal Fernández de Soto.
A total of 66 establishments were visited in January, 60 in February and 49 so far in March, with the towns of Barrios Unidos and Los Mártires having the highest number of these actions with 50 shops inspected in each one.
The operations also temporarily suspended the commercial activity of 57 establishments, 24 preventive and voluntary closures were carried out and 13 people were captured, among others.
The balance sheet of the Ministry of Security, Coexistence and Justice also shows the sum of $451,400,000 among items seized and recovered in the framework of this offensive aimed at the criminal auto parts market.
Among the robberies, the ones that have increased the most in recent years are those involving cars, according to data from the Ministry of Security, during 2021 there were 3,331 cases of vehicle theft reported in the city.
According to an analysis by El Tiempo, during 2021 in June there were 344 robberies, while in July they decreased and there were about 319 robberies. In August and September, the figure remained above 300 cases. October and November were stable months, as the number of car thefts was 370 and 340 for each of these periods.
In addition, as in other forms of robbery, criminals have a strategy, according to information from the authorities, the hours at which carjacking occurs most is between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.; and between 12 p.m. and 6 a.m. But not only do slots but locations in Kennedy have been robbed 721, followed by Engativa, with 493; then Suba, which reached 278 stolen vehicles; Puente Aranda, with 268, and Bosa with 243 cases this year.
In other modalities, such as robberies in the city's Integrated Public Transport System (SITP), according to figures from the National Police's Statistical, Criminal, Contraventional and Operational Information System (Siedco), 30% of robberies are committed in the country between 6:00am and 12:00 noon, while 58% of them occur on Fridays. The Excelencia Corporation also indicated that, during the first eight months of this year, 17% of thefts occurred between 6:00 in the afternoon and 9:00 at night, and 11% between 11:00 in the morning and 12:00 in the afternoon.
In addition, disaggregating the figures revealed that sexual crimes and homicide have been committed in two time ranges: between 12:00 in the morning and 12:59 in the morning, and between 6:00 in the afternoon and 11:59 at night.
