Salamanca (Spain), 22 Mar The City Council of the Spanish city of Salamanca and the Ibero-American University Foundation (Funiber) signed an agreement to promote the role of Salamanca as a meeting point for Iberophone, which deals with the study of the Ibero-speaking world space of the five continents. As the Salamanca City Council explained in a press release on Tuesday, the agreement establishes a framework for collaboration through joint activities and projects, and cultural and academic cooperation in an international context stood out among its lines of action. The mayor of Salamanca (western Spain), Carlos García Carbayo, and the director of Institutional Relations of the Ibero-American University Foundation (Funiber) and its Chair of Ibero-American and Ibero-American Studies, Frigdiano Álvaro Durántez Prados, signed a framework agreement to promote the role of Salamanca as a meeting point for space of the Iberophone. This multinational ensemble is made up of about thirty Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries from all continents, with more than 800 million people - one-tenth of the world's population - covering one fifth of the planet's surface. This agreement establishes a framework for action for collaboration between the Salamanca City Council and Funiber in training activities, projects and programmes, as well as for cooperation in general in order to place Salamanca as an institutional, academic and cultural reference for the whole of the “Iberian World”.
