It has never been easier for movie lovers to have access to a wide range of films as it is now after the emergence of streaming platforms, as with Netflix, although this implies a drawback: among such a variety of titles and genres it is no longer easy to find the next production to enjoy.
However, with these new challenges in mind, Netflix offers its subscribers a list of its films most popular in Mexico, so that it is easier to choose what to see.
Different genres, all with exciting stories to spend many hours in front of the screen, these are the most popular productions to watch these days:
1. Ice Road
A remote diamond mine has collapsed leaving a group of miners trapped in a remote and icy region of Canada. As part of a team hired to rescue them, the experienced driver of an ice scraper undertakes an impossible rescue, having to fight an icy road, thawing waters and a threat he doesn't see coming.
2. The Adam Project
Adam Reed is a time-traveling fighter pilot. When he crashes in 2022, he meets his 12-year-old self and together they set out on a mission to save the future.
3. Chernobyl: Abyss
Chernobyl: Abyss is the first major Russian feature film about the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion, when hundreds of people sacrificed their lives to clean up the site of catastrophe and successfully prevent an even greater disaster that could have turned a large part of the European continent into an exclusion zone uninhabitable.
4. A Shadow In My Eye
On March 21, 1945, the British Royal Air Force undertook a mission to bomb the Gestapo headquarters in Copenhagen. The raid had fatal consequences, as some of the bombers accidentally aimed at a school and more than 120 people died, 86 of whom were children.
5. Spider-Man: A New Universe
In a parallel universe where Peter Parker has died, a young high school boy named Miles Morales is the new Spider-Man. However, when mafia leader Wilson Fisk (a.k.a Kingpin) builds the “Super Collider” he brings an alternative version of Peter Parker who will try to teach Miles how to be a better Spider-Man. But he won't be the only Spider Man to enter this universe: 4 alternate versions of Spider-Man will appear and seek to return to his universe before all reality collapses.
6. Emoji: The Movie
The protagonists will inhabit the mysterious land of Textopolis, where all the people's favorite emojis come to life, while waiting to be selected by the phone user. All characters have a single facial expression except for Gen (TJ Miller), an emoji that was born without a filter and filled with multiple expressions. To become normal, Gen will embark on an adventure or “app-venture”, along with his friends Hi-5 (James Corden) and Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer). But soon, a great threat will make the fate of these characters depend on the three friends, having to save their world before it is completely erased.
7. Mascotas 2
Sequel to the animated film Pets, which told the story of Max, a dog who adores his owner Katie and the life they lead together, but who has to learn to deal with the new pet of the house, a clumsy and careless mongrel named Duke. Directed by Chris Renaud (Gru. My Favorite Villain) and written by Brian Lynch (The Cat in Boots, The Minions) and Ken Daurio (Gru, My Favorite Villain, Pets), this animated film will again tell what exactly our pets do when we walk out the door of our house.
8. Spider-Man 3
Third installment of the adventures of young Peter Parker (Maguire). Parker seems to have finally struck a balance between his devotion to Mary Jane and his duties as a superhero. But all of a sudden, his costume changes turning black and increasing his powers; Peter also transforms, bringing out the darker and more vengeful side of his personality. Under the influence of this new suit, Peter ceases to protect the people who really love him and care about him. In these circumstances, he has no choice but to choose between enjoying the tempting power of the new suit or remaining the compassionate hero of the past. Meanwhile, two fearsome enemies, Venom and Sandman, will use their powers to quench their thirst for vengeance.
9. Shrek
A long, long time ago, in a very distant swamp lived an intractable ogre named Shrek. But suddenly, one day, their absolute loneliness is interrupted by an invasion of surprising fairy tale characters. There are little blind mice in their food, a huge and terrible wolf in their bed, three homeless piglets and many other incredible beings who have been deported from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad. In order to save his land and in passing himself, Shrek makes a pact with Farquaad and goes on a journey to make the precious princess Fiona the bride of the Lord. On such an important mission he is accompanied by a funny donkey, willing to do anything for Shrek. Everything but being quiet. Rescuing the princess from a lovelorn dragon who releases fire when she breathes is going to be silly compared to what happens when the dark secret that the young woman kept is revealed.
10. Shrek 2
When Shrek and Princess Fiona return from their honeymoon, her parents invite them to visit the kingdom of Far Far Far Away to celebrate the wedding. For Shrek, who is never abandoned by his faithful friend Donkey, this is a big problem. Fiona's parents, for their part, didn't expect their son-in-law to look similar, let alone that their daughter had changed so much. All this disrupts the king's plans for the future of the kingdom. But then the Machiavellian Fairy Godmother, her arrogant son Prince Charming and a very special pussy enter the scene: the Cat in Boots, an expert ogre hunter.

Netflix in the war for streaming
Netflix has become the most important streaming platform in recent years and its success has led most entertainment companies to promote their own platforms such as Disney+ and HBO, among others.
Although it started as a company that offered the DVD rental service through postal mail, it was in 2011 that the company started operations outside the United States and Canada, offering its catalog via streaming in Latin America and the Caribbean. A year later it would also reach some countries in Europe and later to Asia.
In 2011, the company ventured to start producing its own content that started with the hit series House of cards, which led it to create its studio in 2016. By 2018 it would already be defined as a global internet television channel.
Previously, on January 16, 2014, one of the most important moments arrived for Netflix: being nominated for the first time in its history for an Oscar Award with the documentary The Square.
Its catalogue includes films that have won an Academy Award, multi-award-winning and viral series such as Squid Game, or important Spanish-language products such as La casa de papel and Élite.
According to the latest information released by the firm itself, the famous streaming platform closed 2021 leading the market with 221.84 million subscribers, which represented an increase of 9% compared to 203.66 million at the end of 2020.
