The Foundation for Urgent Spanish (FundÉurae), promoted by the EFE Agency and the RAE, recalls that the term “skincare” can be replaced in Spanish by the expression “facial care”. It is common to find some examples in the media such as the following: “This is the skincare routine you should do at night”, “How to take care of your skin by adapting your skincare routine to the season” or “What are the skincare products you really need”. Anglicism “skincare”, which means 'skin care', is often used when talking about the routine that is followed, or the products used, to have healthy skin, usually of the face. This term can easily be translated by the expression “facial care” or “skin care”, so foreignerism is unnecessary. If, for some reason, you want to maintain foreignness, it is appropriate to write it in italics or in quotation marks when this type of font is not available. As for gender, it is usually constructed as masculine (“skincare”), since it is understood that the reference in Spanish is “care”. However, there are also cases in women (the “skincare”), understanding that it refers to routine. Therefore, in the examples above it would have been more appropriate to write “This is what skincare routine you should do at night”, “How to take care of your skin by adapting your skincare routine to the season” and “What are the skincare products you really need”.
