An Italian tourist dies after a shark attack on a Colombian island

Bogotá, 18 Mar An Italian tourist died this Friday after being attacked by a shark on a tourist beach in the southern part of the Colombian island of San Andrés, according to local media reports. This is Antonio Roseto Degli Abruzzi, 56, according to the newspaper El Tiempo, who was attacked in “La Piscinita”, a rocky area of cliffs on this island of the Colombian archipelago of the same name located in the Caribbean Sea. The Italian was taken to hospital with a deep bite on his leg, but he arrived without vital symptoms and heavy blood loss. A witness told the Popular News of the Island that he saw the tourist on the motorcycle and “sharks didn't give him a chance to swim, he tried to scare them off with his hand, but every time he did this they bit him”. Together with other people they tried to get him out of the water, when he managed to reach some nearby rocks and transferred him to the Departmental Hospital. Shark attacks are not common in this area, as they are not in the world, despite the repercussions they usually generate. CHIEF ime/jga/jrh
