Paolo Guerrero was ruled out in Alianza Lima: “We are with the squad closed”

The Peruvian striker was not called up by Ricardo Gareca for the last double date of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers. In addition, they confirmed that Carlos Bustos is staying at the club.

Alianza Lima, amid poor results in Liga 1 2022, has just confirmed that its squad for this season is totally closed. In this way, the return of Paolo Guerrero, who was not called up by Ricardo Gareca for the last double date of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, was ruled out for the time being.

“We are with the squad closed. We are not thinking about that possibility, we are satisfied with the current team. We haven't talked to him since before March 8, he didn't fine-tune very specific issues”, commented José Bellina, sports manager of the 'white-blue' squad, in the Football Como Cancha program of RPP Noticias, where he also spoke about others related to the club.

Recall that during the start of the preseason and until very recently, neither party ruled out a possible return to the 'intimate' squad. “I would love to return to Alianza, but no one has contacted me. Just yesterday they asked me a question about a rapprochement with Alianza, but I haven't had an approach because no one has come to me to talk to me,” was one of their last statements from the 'Predator' that made them think I could come back.

Paolo Guerrero has not played an official match since the Peruvian national team's 2-0 victory over Chile on October 07, 2021, as part of matchday 11 of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers played in Lima. The Peruvian was present on the field until he was 62 minutes old, when he was exchanged by Jefferson Farfan. Since then he has dedicated himself fully to recovering.

HOW IS PAOLO GUERRERO'S RECOVERY GOING

Paolo Guerrero decided to travel to the United States on February 13 to continue his knee recovery. Recall that the striker suffered a rupture of the cruciate ligaments of his right leg on August 16, 2020, in a duel of the International against Fluminense. Since then, he has played games, but not in his best condition and always fell to the same injury.

When he returned to Lima, he commented. “I'm training hard. I feel really good. I haven't been discharged yet. I hope to feel better every time and in a short time to play football again.” For now it is thought that it may be ready by the last days of March, but everything will depend on the doctors.

THE FUTURE OF CARLOS BUSTOS

The presence of Carlos Bustos, on six dates of the 2022 Apertura Tournament, is doubtful for many, especially the fans, who have not seen any improvements in the team despite the reinforcements. However, for the sports manager of Alanza Lima, José Bellina, this is not under discussion and his permanence is assured, as he confirmed in a recent interview.

“Carlos Bustos is not under evaluation. What we have been doing is talking to him a lot to see alternatives for improvement. There is no evaluation”, commented the manager.

Alianza Lima won its first victory in the 2022 championship.
