Throughout the history of football, different figures have emerged notable for their technique and skill with the ball, which is why the International Football Hall of Fame has been responsible for recognizing and immortalizing the protagonists of the feats on the court.
This Tuesday, March 15, the 10th Investiture Ceremony of the 2022 Hall of Fame will be held. After suspending the awards two years in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year activities will resume to award the tenth generation of former football players and coaches.
For this edition, the Hall of Fame will host national and international figures, including Ronaldinho, Raúl González, Oswaldo Sánchez and Maribel Domínguez. Due to the postponement of the event due to the health crisis, the names that will enter the international show will correspond to the generation of 2020.
The ceremony is divided into four different categories which are: national, international, dean (section in which characters who were important in football are awarded) and women's.
For the category of national football figures, the laureates are the following:
Oswaldo Sanchez: also known as San Oswaldo was a Mexican goalkeeper who played from 1993 to 2014, when he formally retired. He played in different clubs in the Liga MX such as Atlas, America, Chivas and Santos Laguna. He was also a goalkeeper for the Mexican National Team. He is currently working as a sports analyst for TUDN.
Antonio Carlos Santos: He was a figure with the America club in the eighties because he won a total of eight national and international championships with Las Águilas. The midfielder came to Mexican football in 1987 and in 1992 he went to Portugal. The negro, as is also known, returned to Mexico in 1933 and played until 2000.
Pablo Larios: former Mexican goalkeeper who died in January 2019. His risky technique to save the ball earned him to be nicknamed The Archer of the Jungle. He made his debut in 1980 with the Atlético Zacatepec club. He was runner-up with Cruz Azul twice in 1987 and 1989.
In the international category are:
Raúl González: The former Spanish striker stood out with Real Madrid because he wore the merengue shirt for 16 years. The eternal captain accumulated a total of 741 official matches with Real Madrid during his time as a player, which earned him the record for the most matches played with the people of Madrid.
Fabio Cannavaro: he played as a central defender and his biggest strength was the air game, which is why the fans called him nicknamed Muro di Berlino (Berlin Wall). He played for clubs such as Napoli, Juventus and Real Madrid. He was world champion with the Italian National Team in Germany 2006, he was also awarded the Ballon d'Or, and best player in FIFA that same year.
Ronaldinho: he is one of the best Brazilian strikers, his prowess with the ball and the acrobatics he did with it amazed football fans. He played for clubs like Barcelona, AC Milan and even made it to the Queretaro club in the Liga MX. A controversial character but widely recognized internationally for his outstanding career.
Roberto Carlos: world champion and Olympic medalist with the Brazilian national team. He is considered one of the best wingers in football history. He is also a historic Real Madrid player for having spent much of his career in Spain.
In the deans section, the recognized ones are:
Jesús del Muro: former Mexican footballer and current technical director stood out for being one of the best central defenders in national football. He was an absolute player with the Tri because he participated in the 1958, 1962 and 1966 editions of the World Cup.
Vicente Pereda: he played his entire sports career at the Toluca club, from 1960 to 1976 he wore the shirt of the Red Devils, which is why the fans named him the big devil. He was champion in the seasons 1966 - 1967, 1967 - 1968 and 1974 - 1975.
I said: His name was Waldir Pereira. He was a Brazilian midfielder noted for his elegance in scoring goals. She was part of the historic Brazilian team that was crowned champion at the World Champions in Sweden 1958 and Chile 1962.
Finally, in the women's category the recognized ones are:
Pia Sundhage: former footballer and current women's technical director of the Brazilian national team. He excelled in Swedish football at a young age because at the age of 15 he showed what he was capable of. As a coach she was awarded as best female coach in FIFA 2012.
Maribel Dominguez: Also known as Marigol, she was one of the pioneers of Mexican football. He played in Barcelona Women. In the Tri he achieved the historic qualification of the Mexican National Team to the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. She is currently the coach of the Mexican U20 team, with which she has already qualified for the U20 World Cup this 2022.
