(ATR) A jaguar with a hashtag for a name will "inspire youth to embrace sport as a tool to make the world a better place," at Buenos Aires this October.
#Pandi was unveiled as the 2018 Youth Olympic Games mascot through a video release. The jaguar is modeled after ones that are indigenous to northern Argentina, and was designed to draw attention to conservation efforts.
Buenos Aires 2018 says the mascot will spread the "Olympic values of friendship, respect, and excellence," while maintaining a social media presence through its name.
"Like the young athletes that give their best to qualify for the Games, the Buenos Aires 2018 mascot overcomes all types of adversity to reach its goals," Gerardo Werthein, Buenos Aires 2018 president, said in a statement following the launch.
In the video launch a jaguar races through Buenos Aires to the famous obelisk in downtown performing athletic feats. The video ends with the jaguar donning 2018 YOG apparel becoming #Pandi the Games’ mascot.
