A doctor who arrived at Oscar Pistorius’ house the night he shot his girlfriend, testified that the sprinter prayed to save the woman’s life.
Johan Stripp took to the stand on Thursday, day four of the double-amputee Olympian’s trial.
Pistorius is charged with the pre-meditated murder of Reeva Steenkamp. She was shot on Valentine’s Day of 2013. Pistorius says he thought she was an intruder in his Johannesburg home.
On Thursday, Stripp said when he arrived, he found Steenkamp showed no signs of life.
"At the bottom of the stairs ... there was a lady lying on her back on the floor," Stipp was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
Pistorius then told him, "I shot her. I thought she was a burglar. I shot her."
"Oscar was crying, saying, ‘Please let her live.’ He was saying he would dedicate his life to God if she will only live," Stripp added.
The trial, taking place in a Pretoria court, is expected to conclude on March 20.
If convicted, Pistorius faces 25 years in jail.
