Sochi 2014 confirmed the competition schedule for the upcoming Winter Olympics.
A total of 12 events were added to the program bringing the grand total to 98 events. A bulk of the new events—nine—will be in skiing.
There will be eight events in freestyle skiing and snowboard, while team events have also been added to biathlon, bobsleigh, and figure skating.
Additionally, women’s ski jumping will be contested at the Sochi Olympics for the first time.
Sochi 2014 said in a statement that new events "popular among young people has significantly increased." The statement also claims the number of new events added to the program is an Olympic record.
The announcement came Monday, 200 days until the Olympics.
Competition runs Feb. 7 – 23.
Some 6,000 athletes from 98 countries are expected to participate.
The Coastal Cluster in Sochi will host 29 of the events, with the remaining 69 in the Mountain Cluster.
"Minor alterations" mat still take place to the schedule ahead of the Games.
