Miguel Ángel López went from worrying cycling fans who see him as one of the best riders for the big laps this season, after losing several minutes in the general of the Tour de los Alpes on matchday 3, to perhaps generating a collective sigh as he won the queen stage of the Italian competition this Thursday.

The Colombian, who was previously in the country doing some training work and then moving to the height of Teide in Tenerife along with his team in preparation for the upcoming competitions on his calendar, has now seen the results of having his first victory of the year.

After a controversy he had in the last Vuelta España when he belonged to the Movistar Team, López ran out of competitions by the end of the 2021 season, although that did not mean running out of equipment and training, as his previous squad, Astana, reopened the doors for him as leader for this year's most important races.

'Superman' returned to victory with the Kazakh team after almost 8 months of drought considering that the last time the boyacense won a stage was in the Iberian round during Gamoniteiru days before retiring from the race in a surprising way, even for the Spanish team, which earned him the termination of his contractual relations.

On social networks, Lopez left a few words about what his triumph meant today on the toughest day of the Alps Tour where he no longer aspires to the general standings. He also made a particular sign when he reached the finish line and celebrated, putting his thumb in his mouth, a dedication that refers to his second son who is coming soon.

Miguel adds a new victory for Colombian cycling that this year has garnered more than a dozen partial wins at the start of the season, being perhaps one of the most productive and promising years for many of the national cyclists who play abroad.

So far the most outstanding have been Daniel Martínez who won the Tour of the Basque Country, Sergio Higuita who won the Vuelta a Catalunya, Nairo Quintana won the stage and the general victory of the Tour of the Alpes-Maritimes and the Tour de la Provence respectively, while Fernando Gaviria, who has been injured these days completed two victories in which he was able to compete in the first months of the season.

Miguel's preparation is set to be 100% ready for the Giro d'Italia, which will start on May 6 and will run until the 29th of the same month. There he will face big contenders of the caliber of the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz of the Ineos Grenadiers, who already has a Corsa Rosa title on his record in 2019. In addition, there would also be the presence of riders such as Joao Almeida, Valverde and Simon Yates, to name a few.
