This is how the Colombians ended up in the overall standings of the Giro de Silicia 2022

Damiano Caruso (Italian national team) was proclaimed king of Etna and also scored the overall classification of the Giro de Sicilia when he reached the finish line with 5 seconds ahead of South African Louis Meintjes (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert) and 10 seconds ahead of Ecuadorian Jefferson Cepeda (Drone Hopper). Edgar Pinzón finished in eighth place two minutes and 45 seconds behind the leader.

During the race there were several attacks and escapes that all they managed was to blow up the young Croatian cyclist Fran Miholjevic (Friuli ASD), who started as leader and tried to defend his fate for as many kilometers as possible, but without luck.

The fight for the stage and the general was elucidated in the last few kilometers. On the climb to Etna in which Caruso, Meintjes, Cepeda and the Italian Vicenzo Nibali (Astana) were the great entertainers.

The attacks followed each other until it was Caruso who had the most strength and the one who won in Caltanissetta, his second victory in this Giro de Sicilia, which gave the 34-year-old his first professional victory in a stage race.

Caruso, who made a time of four hours, one minute and 47 seconds, finished in the general standings with 29 seconds ahead of Ecuadorian Cepeda and Meintjes

Colombians in the overall standings

Edgar Pinzón of the Colombia Tierra de Atletes team was the highest ranked among the eight Colombian runners in competition. The Boyacense finished in the top ten of the race at 2:45 behind the leader beating Juan Diego Alba and Daniel Muñóz, riders with international experience.

The rider who advanced the most positions during the last stage of the Italian road race was Andrés Mancipe who advanced 24 squares finishing in 65th place at 30 minutes and 42 seconds. Another runner was the brother of Miguel Ángel 'Superman' Lopez, Juan Carlos López who runs with Astana and placed 36th in the standings 14 minutes and 39 seconds behind the winner.
