The National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH) endorsed the new report of the Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), considering that it will serve to advance the resolution of the case of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students.
“The CNDH welcomes the efforts made by the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to help clarify the events surrounding the disappearance of the 43 students of the Ayotzinapa Normal Rural School of Ayotzinapa Raúl Isidro Burgos,” reported the agency through a statement.
In addition, the CNDH joined “the demand of both the GIEI and Mexican society in general” that, more than seven years after the events, the fathers and mothers of the disappeared and murdered students “have access to the truth of the events that occurred” and access to justice.

According to the so-called “historical truth” of the government of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018), the 43 students from Ayotzinapa were arrested on the night of September 26, 2014 by police officers in Iguala and handed over to the Guerreros Unidos cartel.
This criminal group would have incinerated them in the Cocula garbage dump and then dumped the remains in a nearby river. A version that, after investigations by various groups and institutions, had already been denied.
The new report presented on Monday, March 28 by GIEI investigators confirmed the participation of the Mexican Armed Forces in the case of the 43 Ayotzinapa students, as well as the simulation of investigations and the concealment of information.
In addition, he revealed through a video the participation of members of the Secretariat of the Navy in the manipulation of a place considered key to the event, the Cocula garbage dump.

“The CNDH has spoken out on several occasions regarding the inconsistencies of the official investigation that led to the so-called 'historical truth',” the agency explained.
The Commission also criticized “the actions of the authorities, including those of this commission, who at the time were tasked with clarifying the facts by not fulfilling their responsibility as public servants.”
The CNDH assured that it is “working together with the fathers and mothers” of Ayotzinapa students to demand “a diligent investigation from the competent authorities” to guarantee them access to truth and justice.
In this regard, the CNDH considered that only by exercising the right to truth and access to justice, will the families of the 43 missing students be able to face “the lack of investigations, prosecutions and sanctions” they have faced during these years.

The president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, said that several sailors who participated in the operation at the Cocula garbage dump had already been summoned to declare.
However, this Wednesday he ruled out that the current Secretary of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda, could be involved in the case.
“The adversaries want to make us look bad, even if they could blame us for the disappearance of the young people, they would (...) It is proven that those who participated in the garbage dump, the sailors who are acting, who appear in the shots and those who gave the orders are acting from central offices, from here (Mexico City)”, he said.

López Obrador insisted that those responsible are already testifying for these facts.
“What we are doing to know the truth, all that material has been obtained at this time when we are ruling. If another candidate had won, because that would not have been known, in fact, they would have closed the case”, he said.
