Although the figure of Juan Pablo Montoya in the history of world motorsport already has an exclusive and reserved space with great relevance, the road is not over for him.

Well, at the age of 46, he is still very immersed in the competition tanks and looking to expand that record enriched by more than two decades ago when he thrilled the world and especially Colombia with his feats in Formula 1 by facing the German who represented Ferrari, Michael Schumacher.

And although it hardly sounds in the media as it did before, everything seems to indicate that his family role, as tutor of his 16-year-old son Sebastián Montoya, who followed in his footsteps and passions, does not give him time.

In an interview published by El Tiempo, the winning driver of the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Daytona revealed details with his firstborn son, of the expectations both have for what will be competing as a team in the 12 Hours of Sebring next Saturday in Florida, United States.

Juan Pablo has said that his watchword is to win the competition with Sebastian, to which he adds that this result could help his son take a step forward as it could make him the third driver of the DragonSpeed team ahead of other competitions.

However, the award-winning coffee runner does not want to put pressure on his Sebastian with the results. Although at his young age he has had the opportunity to be in races suitable for his experience, this time he will have an even greater challenge, for which we just have to hope that he adapts.

Sebastian and Juan will be in charge of the Oreca 07-Gibson prototype, a car with which Juan Pablo won in 2021 The 24 Hours of Le Mans, which he is proud of.

In the midst of what he constantly learns, there is something that the young runner wants to inherit from his dad's talents behind the wheel during competitions. This is one of the characteristics that highlighted Juan Pablo the most: “On the track, there are undoubtedly many things that I wanted to learn from my dad. He is very aggressive at the wheel, and I really want to be like that.”

During the interview with the Colombian media, they were seen naturally, sometimes with some father and son jokes, also telling things about their daily lives and showing confidence and support at every step they take as a family, but also as a team.

Sebastian has a great advantage, according to Juan Pablo, because he says that although he had the support of his father in his early days as a professional motorist, his experience was limited, something that his son can take advantage of him.

Still, he highlights some positive differences they have with their child in recognizing that he is more “calm” than he is. The competition will be held on Saturday at 9:00am Colombian time and of course we have to be aware of how the successful runners will fare.
